415 Studios questions
What it is, what it costs, and what it will not do.
What is 415 Studios?
415 Studios is an iOS app that mixes and masters the audio of a video you already filmed. You import a video from Photos, shape its sound with a rack of effect modules, and export the finished video with the new mix baked in and still in sync. It is made by Porter Bliquez, a drummer in Los Angeles.
Who is it for?
Musicians and producers who post video of themselves playing. Drummers, guitarists, bands, singers, anyone whose phone video looks fine and sounds like a phone. It is built for performance video, not for speech.
What problem does it actually solve?
A phone camera records loud live music with one small microphone and automatic gain control. It flattens the dynamics, thins the low end, and picks up the room. The playing was good and the recording is not. 415 Studios is the mixing stage that normally happens in a DAW, applied to the video's own audio track without ever detaching it from the video.
What does it deliberately not do?
It does one job. It does not edit the picture, add captions, sync a separate audio recording to a video, record a take against a backing track, or cut between camera angles. Every one of those is somebody else's tool, and doing them badly would be worse than not doing them.
Does it work for drums?
Yes, and drums are the hardest case it was built around. Several modules exist specifically for kits recorded badly: bringing the snare back, adding saturation a room mic never captured, opening the cymbals, sharpening the stick. Nothing about it is drums only.
How is it different from a video editor like CapCut?
A video editor edits pictures and gives audio a volume slider and a few presets. 415 Studios does the opposite: it leaves the picture alone and gives the audio a real signal chain, with individual modules you set yourself and meters that show what they are doing. Most people use both, on different parts of the job.
How is it different from a DAW like GarageBand or Logic?
A DAW is more powerful and it does not know about your video. The normal route is export the audio, mix it in the DAW, re-attach it to the video in an editor and hope nothing drifts. 415 Studios is that route collapsed into one app on the phone, at the cost of a DAW's depth. If you are mixing a record, use the DAW.
How is it different from Moises or a stem separator?
Those split a recording into stems and hand you audio files. 415 Studios can separate the parts of your recording too, but it puts them back into the same video you started with and exports that video. If what you want is stems as files to take somewhere else, a dedicated separator is the better tool.
What does the workflow look like?
Import a video from Photos. Tap Studio for a one-tap clean-up, or open the module rack and set it yourself. Pick a loudness target if you are posting to TikTok, Reels or Shorts. Export. The finished video goes straight to Photos and the share sheet opens.
Is it free?
The app is free to download and needs no account. Free includes the one-tap Studio enhance, trimming, looping, fades, undo, and one export a day, which carries a small 415 STUDIOS wordmark. The effect modules, presets, loudness targets, mic models and automation are Pro. Pro also removes the daily limit and the wordmark.
What does Pro cost?
$9.99 a month, or $69.99 a year with a seven day free trial. Subscriptions are cancelled in Apple Account settings, not in the app.
What is Studio?
Studio is the tier above Pro. It adds everything in Pro plus stems export, which gives you the drums and the room as 24-bit WAV files for your DAW, batch export, two more mic models (AC701 and TALKBACK) and the Porter's Rooms preset pack. $19.99 a month, or $129.99 a year with a seven day free trial, or $199.99 once, which never renews.
Do I have to pay to hear what the effects do?
For everything past Studio enhance, yes. Tap a module, a preset, a loudness target or a mic on the free tier and the app asks for Pro before it turns on. The one-tap Studio enhance is free to hear and free to export once a day.
Can I use it without an iPhone?
There is a browser version at 415porter.com/studio/web that runs the same mixer on any computer or phone with a modern browser. Mixing in it is free and needs no account. Exporting from the browser version is sold separately from the app. There is no Android app.
What devices does the app run on?
iPhone and iPad, iOS 17 or newer. The app is available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
What can it not fix?
Audio that clipped while recording is permanently damaged and no processing undoes it. Heavy wind, a blocked microphone, and a phone that recorded through connected earbuds are all losses. It also does not edit the picture, add captions, or tune a vocal.
Does my video get uploaded anywhere?
No. The processing runs on the device. The privacy policy at 415porter.com/studio/privacy states what each service receives.
Can I fix the audio without re-syncing it to the video?
That is the design. The audio is never detached from the video, so there is nothing to drift.
Can it line up a separate recording with my video?
No. If you recorded the sound properly on an interface or a field recorder at the same time, lining that up with the video is a job for a video editor, not for this app. 415 Studios works on the audio that is already in the video.
